Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

To mark the 17th Annual National Apprenticeship Week we’d like to celebrate the hard work of Corey and Shaka who have both completed their Level 3 Junior Web Developer apprenticeships here at Reuben Digital.

The theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2024 is “Skills for Life”. We encourage everyone to consider how apprenticeships can help individuals to develop the skills and knowledge required for a rewarding career, and employers to develop a workforce with future-ready skills

Corey Hiom - Full Stack Developer

“I joined Reuben Digital as an apprentice in October 2017, starting in a position supporting customers and our websites. After developing a keen interest in the building of websites after leaving college. I sought out the apprenticeship as a way of entering the world of web development, and Reuben was the perfect fit. The apprenticeship allowed me to organically learn how we build websites and a variety of other essential workplace skills.“

“The support and guidance from Ray and the Reuben team played a pivotal role in my learning journey. Gradually I took on further responsibilities in developing new functions for our websites, moving to developing some websites on my own, and becoming a Microsoft Full Stack developer and establishing myself as a valuable member of the Reuben team. Choosing the apprenticeship was a great decision that I'm thankful for, establishing a rewarding career path for myself.”

Shaka Clarke - Junior Web Develepor

“I joined Reuben Digital as an Apprentice in June 2021. Starting with no coding or development skills, I have since gone on to be hired by Reuben Digital as a junior web developer in August 2022. Currently, my role here at Reuben shifts between working on client support requests and contributing to front-end projects. I enjoy the mixture of tasks as they offer different dynamics to the working day.“

“Support tasks might have you scratching your head trying to solve a unique issue that is always satisfying to resolve, regardless of how simple or complex the resolution may be. Project work will come with a design, which is equally rewarding to code and see the results come to life. I recommend the apprenticeship route to anyone who feels like a career change, who wants to learn the trade regardless of experience or age, and most importantly, being able to learn those new skills in a real-world environment.“

Reuben Digital is committed to investing in and nurturing young talent. Corey and Shaka are vital assets to the company. We think the apprenticeship scheme is a great way to find, nurture and develop talent for our business and most importantly, create an exciting opportunity for our countries young people to grow and thrive with purpose.
